THE
Tamale branch manager of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust
(SSNIT), Mr Richard Setsofia has called on contributors of the SSNIT pension
scheme to take advantage of the SSNIT mobile customer clinic.
The programme, he noted, is a one-stop shop
that offers the customers the opportunity to update their records, replace
missing cards and make enquiries on the progress of their contributions.
He said prospective contributors, who
were not yet on the scheme, could also take advantage to make enquires on how
to register with the scheme.
Mr Setsofia made the call at the
commencement of the five-day SSNIT mobile customer clinic at the forecourt of
the Northern Regional Library in Tamale.
A number of workers and pensioners
visited the clinic to seek more information about their contributions and also
update their records.
Mr Setsofia said SSNIT was enjoined
under the National Pensions Act (ACT 766) of 2008 to makes its services more
accessible to the people.
He said this was the reason why SSNIT
decided to start the mobile customer clinic.
“The clinic also offers SSNIT the
opportunity to source data to update its database regarding its clients,” he
stated.
In an interview, Mr Alhassan Imoro, who
is a retired staff of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), commended SSNIT for taking
the initiative to reach out to the public.
“There are a number of issues bordering
pensioners and workers regarding the work of SSNIT and so people are always
looking for an opportunity to seek answers to these issues,” he said, adding
that people would begin to co-operate with SSNIT if they become more aware of
their obligations with regards to their SSNIT contributions.
