THE 2008 Presidential Aspirant for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr Paapa Kwesi Ndoum has thrown his weight behind efforts to revamp the party’s structures in the Northern Region.
This is to help the party reinvigorate its grassroots and effectively co-ordinate its campaign activities in the region as election 2012 approaches.
In line with this commitment, Dr Ndoum over the weekend presented a number of building materials to the Northern Regional executives of the CPP at a short ceremony at the party’s makeshift office in Tamale.
The donation, he explained, was to help the executives construct a permanent office for the CPP in the Northern Region.
“One of the things that did not help us in 2008 was that many of the voters could not contact our party’s executives because they could not find our party’s offices,” Dr Ndoum stated.
“That is why I have taken it upon myself to help the party build its structures in all parts of the country before the next election,” he added.
Dr Ndoum revealed that he was supporting the rebuilding of the party’s offices in over 50 constituencies in the country, adding that the reorganisation of polling stations would follow soon.
He said he was happy that the Northern Regional executives were desirous of building a new and permanent party structure, noting that such a move would help the party in the long run.
Dr Ndoum described criticisms that he was helping the party in order to boost his bid for re-election as the party’s flag-bearer for 2012 as misplaced, stressing that it should be the priority of every party member to support the party’s rebuilding.
“There are people who tell you what they would do for the party when they win power and there are people who would do it now. Which one do you prefer,” he asked rhetorically.
On his plans to contest the presidential primaries of the CPP, Dr Ndoum said he would make his intentions clear this week, but noted that he was sure if he contests, he would be the preferred candidate of the delegates because he had proven his abilities to spearhead the party’s comeback.
He rejected calls for the CPP to focus only on the parliamentary contest, saying that “being in Parliament, but not in government is not interesting. We must go to the flagstaff house in 2012.”
On his part, the Northern Regional Chairman of the CPP, Alhaji Issah Zorro commended Dr Ndoum for his endeavour to rebuild the CPP.
He said the party was definitely on a path of revival and the executives in the region were working tirelessly to support this process.
